How do I find the Crystal Garden?

The Crystal Garden is located at 713 Douglas Street which is across the street from the Victoria Conference Centre. Click on Venue to see a map.

What is Crystal Garden?

The Crystal Garden is an extraordinarily beautiful structure, designed by well known architect Francis Rattenbury, in 1925. This iconic structure is defined by its very impressive and very large glass and steel roof—the crystal!

Its structure was inspired by the famous Crystal Palace built for London’s 1851 Great Exposition and the Palm House at Kew Gardens. Opened in June 1925 as the largest salt water swimming pool in the Empire, this conservatory building also housed leafy tea gardens and two dance floors.

It was a most popular social centre for the city for decades and a haunt for many celebrities in its heyday including Johnny Weissmuller of Tarzan fame who set a 100 yard freestyle world indoor record in the pool in 1925.

Where do I park?

If you prefer or need to use a car, the conference Centre has a two-level underground
parking garage for up to 310 vehicles, with access off Douglas Street @ 720 Douglas. The parkade is open from 5:00 a.m. until midnight 365 days of the year. During these hours there is an attendant on duty. After hours, the parkade is secured. Rates are $1.50/30 minutes up to a daily maximum of $16. There is a height restriction of 6’2″ (1.88 m).
